So for all of you who didn’t see it on Facebook…
We finally got to start excavating yesterday! The sun was shining for a WHOLE DAY so, as the saying goes, our guy set to “make hay while the sun was shining”. I couldn’t believe how different it looked when I got up there!
There are a large number of tall Ash trees that have died due to the Emerald Ash Borer in our area, so our excavator has had to clear many of them to make our home site not only buildable, but safe in the long run. Those trees will come down at some point. Might as well be now!
For reference, this is what our home site started as:
In the next week, our excavator will finish prepping the site for our septic system. After that, we can finish gathering wood for our walls and get the big materials ordered. We already have a quote in at a trusted local supplier for our posts, trusses, roofing, concrete, etc. There’s still plenty more to plan for beyond that, but hey…one step at a time.
If you want to see more pictures, I’ve uploaded everything I have so far to my Flickr account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/accidentalhippies/ There, I have a LOT of photos and even a few videos that I haven’t put up on the website, Facebook, or Twitter, so check it out!
