Finally!
We’ve had a very unusual stretch of dry weather that has turned our mud into dust and allowed some wonderful guys to drill and pour our concrete piers!

19 holes. 4 feet deep. 24 inches wide.
And our land is all clay and rocks!
Fortunately for me, one of my fellow teachers has a brother and father who own a construction business and were able to do a fantastic job for us, as this was definitely NOT something we would be able to do on our own; watching them break 2 out of 3 mini excavators showed me that well enough. There will be some other jobs like that (raising our very large trusses, for starters), so it’s nice to have a network of people we can trust throughout this build. I don’t think I can emphasize that enough. If you are going to build a house, you need to have a network of trusted professionals by your side.
I put together a video of our piers and give a bit of a “home” tour so you can get a sense of how the layout will be.
Enjoy!!
